NPR and PBS leaders have vowed to legally oppose President Donald Trump’s executive order to slash federal subsidies, calling the move ’blatantly unlawful.’ The order, signed late Thursday, cited alleged bias in the broadcasters’ reporting as justification. Patricia Harrison, CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, asserted the White House lacked authority for the cuts.

The conflict follows months of threats from Trump and congressional Republicans to defund public media. PBS and NPR executives defended their budgets before the House Doge panel in March, emphasizing their role in nonpartisan journalism. Legal challenges are now being prepared to block the administration’s action.
